SECTION II: PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To coordinate/ support implementation of environmental processes & policies at site, and provide technical expertise and remedial measures with the objective to mitigate risk and achieve sustainable operations as per overall RIL Group's environmental regulations & standards
SECTION III: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OF THE ROLE
Responsibilities
Policies, Processes and Procedures
- Assist in the formulation of site environment strategy in line with regulatory compliance, established policies, and environmental management of a site
- Keep self abreast with leading practices & trends and contribute to the identification of continuous improvement of systems, processes and procedures
- Implement new initiatives/ projects as per established environmental policies to meet future requirements of sites
Operations
- Follow established checks & balances in the areas of environment across site to intervene/ escalate issues early to avert major environmental incidents
- Report non-compliant cases and recommend measures for resolution in adherence to organizational and global environmental norms/ regulations (e.g. ISO 14001, etc.)
- Carryout first party environmental audit systems in line with the established policies and implement suggested measures in case of non-compliance, if any
- Track leading and lagging environment metrics at a site, provide advisory to concerned departments and implement recommended measures, if any
- Lead and carryout first party environmental compliance audits and liaise with government authorities to facilitate investigations on environmental issues
Capability Building and Communication
- Ensure correctness and timely submissions of documents to regulatory authorities for consent & authorization from pollution control board (PCB), water cess returns, compliance reports, audit reports
- Create reports of environmental monitoring, findings, and performance indices and present to site management to ensure awareness towards environmental issues
- Drive environmental sustainability initiatives and awareness training to drive environmental excellence at a site
People Management
- Participate in recruitment activities & ensure retention / engagement of own team
- Set performance objectives of own team, evaluate / appraise team members and provide regular feedback & guidance
- Guide, mentor and develop own team to take larger and complex responsibilities
- Evaluate training and development requirements for own team and make recommendations for learning interventions
SECTION IV: SUCCESS METRICS
- # of audits conducted as per plan - Timely reporting of audit findings - Environmental audit score - % increase in use of renewable energy - Penalties due to non-compliance
SECTION V: OPERATING NETWORK
Internal: S&OR, Site Teams, HR, Finance, etc.
External: Auditors, Government Agencies, Consultants, etc.
SECTION VI: KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES
Education Qualifications
- Bachelors/Masters of Engineering/Technology in Environment, HSE Specialization or allied field - Certified Sustainability PR actioner/ GHG accounting (preferable)
Experience (Must Have)
- 6-12 years of experience with exposure in the field of EIA, Environmental Management, Policy and strategy
Experience Good to have)
- Prior experience in chemical/petrochemical or allied industry
Functional / Behavioral competencies required to execute the role
