Unique Job Role: Clinical Associate
Position: Clinical Associate – Histopathology
Function: Clinical services
Department: Laboratory Medicine
Reports To (Job Role / Position): Laboratory Director
1. Job Purpose
Responsibility for analysis, diagnosis and delivery of laboratory services in conformance with Sir HNRFH standards of medical and service excellence. Attachment to Sir HNRFH shall be on a full-time basis. No other attachment will be allowed.
2. Accountabilities
Key Responsibilities: Service
- Work under the supervision of section consultants of Laboratory Medicine
- Ensure adherence to the policies and procedures and by-laws across the section
- Conduct and supervise gross examination of surgical pathology specimens
- Provisional microscopic examination of Gastrointestinal & Nephropathology specimens, other Histopathology, Gynaec and non-Gynaec Cytology specimens with co-authorization, as indicated by the consultant in the Histopathology & Cytology section
- Supervise DNB residents and technical staff of respective Lab Medicine sections
- Work collaboratively with section consultants of Lab Medicine
- Ensure timely analysis and reporting of all samples received in the respective
- Participate in all academic and teaching activities of his/her specialty as required by the DNB, and any related fellowship programs
- Comply with CME credits as per applicable MMC guidelines, with renewal of MMC/MCI registration, as applicable
- Participate as per the defined role during any internal/external disaster
- Ensure the following activities are completed with respect to discharge process:
- Provisional Discharge:
- Confirmation of discharge by Consultants
- Confirmation and clearance of investigations done on the day of the discharge
- Removal of all lines and tubes in coordination with Nursing team
- Mark for Discharge:
- Completion of discharge summary
- Any other responsibility as assigned by the Consultants & HOD Laboratory Medicine and hospital organization.
Key Responsibilities: Growth
- Participate in intra- and inter-departmental meetings, hospital committees and fulfill all responsibilities as assigned
- Participate in health programs in the hospital, outreach activities or communities as per the requirement
- Promote use of evidence-based reporting
Key Responsibilities: Quality
- Provide efficient and effective analysis, diagnosis & reporting following accepted professional guidelines adhering to time standards
- Collate reports, test results, or examination information to support clinicians to diagnose disease of the patient as per set benchmarks/SLAs
- Ensure all samples received in the section from In-patient and Out-patient departments are conducted as per established quality norms and good laboratory practices
- Ensure quality assurance programs and safety related activities are adhered to by the section staff in accordance with all accreditation related programs
- Ensure all patient related and administrative documents are accurately maintained and updated ensuring patient confidentiality at all times
Key Responsibilities: Finance
- Ensure cost effective utilization of all available resources including equipment, utilities and infrastructure
- Ensure optimal utilization of consumables in the department and prevent wastage
Key Responsibilities: People
- Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality is duly protected at all times
- Help set goals for team members and drive high performance and professional excellence
- Ensure induction/orientation and continuous training of functional and technical skills of the team members
- Consult with medical staff by telephone or be available if the situation demands
- Be available to cover colleague when they are sick/on leave (within the constraints of existing workload)

- Conduct, participate and encourage clinical education, research, clinical trials and publication to advance the practice of laboratory medicine pertaining to the department
- Give suggestions and feedback to further improve services and growth of department.

4. Experience & Educational Requirements
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Include Additional Certification Required if any
Necessary: MBBS with MD Pathology
Desirable:
- Fellowship in subspecialities of Pathology
- Knowledge of NABL, JCI and CAP
