As a Building Simulation Expert specializing in Energy Simulation, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Net Zero Energy (NZE), and Green Buildings, candidate will play a crucial role in leading and executing simulation-based projects focused on sustainable building design and performance. The expertise should contribute achieving energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and compliance with green building standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Energy Simulation and Analysis:
- Develop and implement detailed energy simulation models using software tools such as EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, or similar platforms.
- Conduct energy modeling and analysis for buildings to optimize energy performance, identify energy-saving opportunities, and assess renewable energy integration.
- Evaluate HVAC systems, building envelope designs, lighting systems, and renewable energy technologies for energy efficiency improvements.
2. Net Zero Energy (NZE) and Green Building Expertise:
- Lead and support projects aiming for Net Zero Energy (NZE) or high-performance green buildings.
- Develop energy strategies, design recommendations, and performance targets aligned with NZE goals and green building certifications (e.g., IGBC, LEED, GRIHA, EDGE).
- Stay updated with industry trends, standards, and best practices related to NZE buildings and green building design.
3. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA):
- Conduct life cycle assessments (LCAs) of building materials, components, and systems to quantify environmental impacts.
- Analyze energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and other sustainability metrics throughout the building life cycle.
- Identify strategies to minimize environmental impacts and promote sustainable building practices based on LCA results.
4. Team Management:
- Lead a team of simulation engineers and analysts, providing guidance, training, and mentorship.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and goals.
- Set goals, and foster professional development within the team.
5. Technical Support and Consultation:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to architects, engineers, and project teams on energy simulation, LCA methodologies, and sustainable design strategies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate sustainable design principles into building projects from conceptual design to post-occupancy.
6. Research and Innovation:
- Stay abreast of advancements in energy simulation tools, LCA methodologies, renewable energy technologies, and green building practices.
- Participate in research initiatives, pilot projects, and innovation programs focused on sustainable building design and performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainable Design, or related field.
- Strong expertise (8+ years) in building energy simulation, energy modeling software (EnergyPlus, Design Builder, eQUEST, OpenStudio, etc.), and related tools.
- Experience in conducting Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for buildings or construction projects, familiarity with LCA software is a plus.
- Knowledge of Net Zero Energy (NZE) concepts, green building certifications, and sustainable design principles.
- Familiarity with building codes, energy standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO), and environmental regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in data analysis for energy and environmental metrics.
- Strong communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Certifications such as LEED AP, IGBC AP, GRIHA CP, WELL AP, or equivalent are advantageous.
