Job Description:

Xemplar Insights (Xemplar) is a rapidly growing digital solutions company that specializes in the use of smartphone and web technologies, AWS Cloud, and data science to help insurance companies and commercial businesses advance their digital transformation. As the company continues to grow, it has concrete plans to develop an AI practice using ready-to-use models, frameworks, and platform using ML and GPT technologies. Xemplar is looking to hire an experienced Data Scientist with proven knowledge and expertise in the development of predictive models, along with foundational knowledge of working LLMs. The Data Scientist will be expected to drive the relevant deliverables and work in a team of cross-functional resources in a matrixed organization, for both internal product development and customer projects. Interested candidates will get to work in an established Insuretech, with highly talented individuals and a fast-paced environment. Gets to work with P&C insurance clients and/or large commercial businesses that are looking to implement innovative solutions for customer engagement, risk management, and operational efficiency.


Job Responsibilities

  1. Work on product R&D to help Xemplar develop go-to-market a suite of predictive models applicable for P&C insurance.
  2. Work on specific customer projects to produce deliverables involving development and maintenance of models as per specific customer requirements.
  3. Close closely with a team comprising of business analysts, frontend, mid-tier, and backend developers in developing production applications that utilize the developed models.
  4. Hands-on development of advanced algorithms for the use in Generative based AI tools.
  5. Conceptualize problems, apply appropriate theory, explore approaches, simulate, and implement them with minimal supervision.
  6. Define data needs, evaluate data quality, and extract/transform data for analytic projects and predictive monitors.
  7. Provide thought leadership in the field of Data Science, AI, and ML to the leadership team in development and expansion of AI practice with well-researched ideas and approaches.
  8. Continuously update knowledge and progress in the field to keep Xemplar practice ahead in the game, in terms of know-how and experience.


Required Relevant Experience:

  • Must have hands-on experience working with large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Must have 5+ years’ experience in developing predictive models, data mining, statistical model development, big data use, and high-performance computing.
  • 3+ years’ experience leading small teams of other data scientists using Jira for tracking and measurement.
  • Experience in use of NLP text mining / transformer models tooling to create customer help chatbot.
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders to identify, define, and develop data science opportunities to drive customer and commercial benefit.


Other Experience

  • Experience working for leadership located in other countries and cultures as well as large time zone shifts.
  • Proficiency in using latest data science and model development and training tools such as Google CoLabs, AWS SageMaker, etc.
  • Proficiency in using Jira software, MS-Office products, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and quickly adapt to changing priorities and external constraints.
  • Strong interpersonal and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in leadership through influence (e.g., without formal authority).
  • Candidates with strong referrals will be preferred.


Educational Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or statistical methods.
