Job Description: Senior Merchant

As a Senior Merchant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the merchandising strategy for the company. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of market trends, consumer behavior, and product assortment. The Senior Merchant will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sales, optimize inventory levels, and enhance the overall customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Merchandising Strategy:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive merchandising strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify new opportunities and potential risks.
  1. Product Assortment:
  • Curate a diverse and compelling product assortment that meets the needs and preferences of the target audience.
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to negotiate favorable terms, secure exclusive products, and ensure high-quality merchandise.
  1. Inventory Management:
  • Optimize inventory levels to maximize sales while minimizing overstock and out-of-stock situations.
  • Implement effective forecasting and demand planning processes to ensure product availability and timely restocking.
  1. Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, finance, operations, and sales, to ensure alignment and seamless execution of merchandising initiatives.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop promotional campaigns and strategies that drive product visibility and sales.
  1. Data Analysis:
  • Utilize data analytics to assess product performance, customer behavior, and market trends.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for assortment adjustments, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.
  1. Vendor Management:
  • Cultivate strong relationships with vendors and negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and take corrective actions as needed to ensure compliance with quality standards and delivery timelines.
  1. Financial Management:
  • Manage the merchandising budget effectively, ensuring that financial goals are met and profitability is maintained.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement strategies to improve overall financial performance.
  1. Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior members of the merchandising team.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in a senior merchandising role, with a track record of successfully driving sales and managing product assortments.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the retail industry and market trends.
  • Proficiency in using merchandising software and data analysis tools.
