Job Description : 

Whereas we did call out java as a development skill we actually do very little java here on the ECS team. Our main development work is in the Unix command line area. We maintain several very mature program suites that are the tools that make up the ECS system and most of our work is configuring those tools for use, writing scripts to run those tools in response to business need driven processing. And writing call record processing rules in our proprietary rules engine language.

Our tools are written in C++ and to understand how the tools work under the hood it is necessary to have C++ programming skills. But most of those tools are quite mature and we actually do very little maintenance on them these days.

What we do a lot of on a day to day basis is using those tools to solve business problems.

We need someone who is very comfortable working with Unix and the normal Unix tools such as awk, ksh, bash at the command line level. And they need to be willing to learn our ECS tools and how to use our proprietary rules engine which uses declarative style programming in a non-sequential execution environment.

In fact heavy code development skills are not necessarily our biggest need because these days we do very little green field code development.

A good fit for our team would be more someone who is very comfortable learning our tools that operate at the Unix command line level and is very adept at learning the Telephone business as related to call record processing for delivery to the downstream billing/fraud/reporting good fit for our team would be more someone who is very comfortable learning our tools that operate at the Unix command line level and is very adept at learning the Telephone business as related to call record processing for delivery to the downstream billing/fraud/reporting systems even acting as a system analyst to some degree to understand data content and our data flows and be able to understand what changes to our call record processing logic is needed by business changes as presented by our on-staff business analysts.

Whereas we do have some components in ECS that are Web server systems a heavy duty java web designer would find very little they understand in the ECS world and would become bored very quickly.
