Role Overview:

As the Senior Manager / Director of Engineering, you will manage a significant cross-functional engineering team, taking full ownership of architecture, development, and quality for JioCloud’s backend, mobile (iOS and Android), and web platforms. The ideal candidate is not a “people person” but rather an extremely technically strong leader with hands-on experience in software development or DevOps.

This role demands expertise in delivering systems capable of scaling to support hundreds of millions of users. You will drive technical excellence and oversee the launch of AI/ML features, managing the end-to-end development of ML pipelines while ensuring operational efficiency and high-quality deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

- Technical Leadership & Scalability: Lead the architecture and development of JioCloud’s backend systems, ensuring scalability and performance to support hundreds of millions of users. Maintain a hands-on approach to technical problem-solving, especially in backend engineering and cloud infrastructure.

- Cross-Functional Team Management: Oversee a large, diverse engineering team, spanning backend, mobile, web, QA automation, and operations. While managing the team, the focus will be on technical guidance rather than people management, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with engineering goals.

- AI/ML Pipeline Development: Drive the delivery of AI/ML-powered features, overseeing the development of scalable ML pipelines. Guide teams in implementing features like face recognition, object detection, and real-time analytics, ensuring seamless integration across the JioCloud platform.

- Backend Engineering & DevOps: Provide hands-on technical leadership in backend engineering and DevOps. Focus on the design, optimization, and scaling of APIs, data storage, and cloud-native infrastructure using best practices in microservices, containerization, and automation.

- Mobile & Web Platform Oversight: Ensure mobile (iOS/Android) and web development aligns with backend services. Provide strategic technical guidance for mobile and web teams to deliver optimal performance and ensure feature parity across devices.

- Operational Monitoring & Automation: Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and automation frameworks using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and other observability technologies. Ensure high operational efficiency and 24/7 uptime across JioCloud’s distributed environment.

Key Skills and Experience:

- Experience with Massive Scale Systems: Proven expertise in delivering and managing large-scale, distributed systems capable of supporting hundreds of millions of users. Experience with cloud-native environments and distributed systems is essential.

- AI/ML Expertise: Experience launching AI/ML features and managing end-to-end ML pipelines, including data processing, model deployment, and optimization. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow, OpenCV, or similar tools is preferred.

- Hands-on Backend & DevOps Experience: Extensive hands-on experience in backend engineering, microservices architecture, and DevOps processes. Strong knowledge of infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.

- Cross-Platform Development & Integration: Strong oversight of mobile and web development, ensuring seamless integration with backend services. Experience managing high-traffic applications across iOS, Android, and web platforms is desirable.

- Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) and infrastructure-as-code practices. Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipeline tools like Jenkins and GitLab.

- Monitoring & Observability: Expertise in operational monitoring and alerting, using Prometheus, Grafana, and other observability tools to ensure system reliability and proactive issue detection.

Qualifications:

- Education: B.Tech or M.Tech in Computer Science or related field.

- Experience: 15+ years of experience in cloud-native engineering, with 8+ years in leadership roles managing large-scale platforms. Experience delivering systems for hundreds of millions of users is highly preferred.

- Preferred Experience: Extensive hands-on experience in backend engineering or DevOps, managing cross-functional teams, and launching AI/ML features at scale.
