- The Senior Cassandra DBA would need to have at least 4 years of experience with development and customer support, providing technical and operational support activities of Database Servers, including logical and physical database design support, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, tuning, and optimizing.
- Good Understanding of Cassandra Architecture.
- Aware of Different Compaction Strategies in Cassandra.
- Hands on Experience in DB Version Upgrade of Cassandra Instances.
- Hands on Experience in different ways to take Backups in Cassandra.
- Good Understanding of different ways to Restore Backup of 5 Node Cassandra Cluster into a 3 Node Cassandra Cluster.
- Hands on Experience in resolving Cassandra Issues, Error's.
- Understanding of Types of Repair, Repair Strategies in Cassandra.
- Understanding of tombstones in Cassandra.
- Responsible for monitoring of all Production, Replica Instances and uptime of all production databases.
- Responsible for regular Review/Monitoring of Local Disk, Tape backups and Recovery, DR -Drill's of databases.
- Responsible for regular maintenance on databases (e.g., Garbagecollect, Repair, DB Stop/Start, Node Add, Remove from Cluster).
- Estimate Cassandra database capacities; develop methods for monitoring database capacity and usage.
- Lead efforts to develop and improve procedures for automated monitoring and proactive intervention, reducing any need downtime.
- Participate in application development projects and be responsible for the database architecture and design.
- Participate in the creation of development, staging, and production database instances, and the migration from one environment to another.
- Hands-on operational DBA expertise in the areas of Replication, High Availability ie Multi DC Cassandra Setup's and Backup/Recovery.
- Advanced performance-tuning skills to review performance data and prepare reports.
- SQL and Linux scripting skills are required skills.
- Strong communication skills are a requirement for this position.
- Responsible for developer SQL code review to ensure queries are optimized and tuned to perform efficiently prior to production release.
- Responsible for pro-active remediation of database operational problems.
- Responsible for Query tuning and preventative maintenance.
- Participate in a 24×7 support rotation.
- Support complex web-based applications.
