Role Overview:

The Nesting Engineer is responsible for optimizing the layout of component patterns to be cut from steel sheets or stock materials, aiming to maximize material utilization, minimize waste and enhance production efficiency. The role involves creating efficient and cost-effective nesting plans, that meet or exceed quality requirements and customer specifications. Knowledge on SAP.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Production Planning:

o   Prepare detailed customer schedules, understanding precisely what needs to be cut this week, next week, and beyond for meeting delivery deadlines and managing workflow efficiently.

o   Analyse production orders to determine the best grouping of parts for cutting to achieve optimal flow through the manufacturing process and the best material yield.

o   Develop contingency plans to adjust production schedules in response to material shortages, equipment downtime, or urgent customer requests.

Nesting Optimization and Material Efficiency:

o   Employ advanced nesting strategies, including multi-torch cutting, common line cutting, and minimizing distance between parts, to improve material utilization and reduce waste.

o   Run the nesting software multiple times with different parameters and options to find the best solution that balances material yield, inventory levels, and production flow.

o   Update and manage material and machine parameters.

Machine Capability Understanding and Coordination:

o   Gain a thorough understanding of the capabilities and limitations of CNC oxy-fuel, plasma, and laser cutting machines to ensure that the nesting software's parameters match real-world machine capabilities.

o   Work closely with cutting shop personnel to understand daily operational challenges and opportunities for process improvements at vendor place.

o   Ensure high-level coordination and collaboration with the cutting vendor team to adjust plans based on machine availability, maintenance schedules, and operator expertise.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

o   Continuously seek ways to improve nesting techniques and production planning processes to enhance overall efficiency, reduce lead times, and increase customer satisfaction.

o   Stay abreast of the latest industry trends and technological advancements in nesting software and cutting technologies to implement innovative solutions in the cutting shop.
