A senior payroll officer's responsibilities include:

  • Processing payroll
  • Ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and on time, in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures 
  • Managing payroll activities
  • Coordinating payroll-related activities, such as processing, inquiries, and quality assurance 
  • Providing customer service
  • Providing high-level customer service to employees and management on employment matters 
  • Advising on payroll
  • Advising on payroll-related acts, awards, agreements, policies, and procedures 
  • Maintaining records
  • Maintaining salary variations, leave, and other relevant information in a computerized database 
  • Running reports
  • Preparing reports and correspondence 
  • Reviewing entitlements
  • Reviewing employees' entitlements, such as leave credits and accruals 
  • Consulting with HR
  • Consulting with the HR team and business leaders on award and legislative changes 
  • Developing relationships
  • Developing relationships with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll-related issues
