Responsibilities:
- Maintaining safety during loading and unloading operations by using appropriate safety equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots
- Reporting any accidents or injuries that occur on the job site to supervisors
- Inspecting trucks before and after work to ensure they are functioning properly
- Collecting garbage cans from residences or businesses and transporting them to the dump site
- Performing basic maintenance tasks such as changing the oil in the truck’s engine or replacing tires
- Operating trucks fitted with specialized equipment such as compaction equipment, forklifts, and cranes
- Communicating with supervisors regarding pick up schedules and route changes
- Collecting recyclables from businesses and homes, including cardboard boxes and paper products such as cans and bottles
- Collecting and disposing of hazardous materials such as paint, gasoline, pesticides, and cleaning products
