Art teachers play a variety of roles in the classroom, including: 

• Teaching techniques
• Art teachers demonstrate and teach students how to use a variety of art materials and techniques, such as pencils, pens, charcoal, brushes, watercolors, acrylics, and oil paints. 
• Planning
• Art teachers plan lessons and curriculum that meet learning goals, and prepare the classroom with the necessary materials and equipment. 
• Evaluating
• Art teachers assign and grade projects and exams, and record and report on student progress. 
• Encouraging expression
• Art teachers encourage students to express themselves artistically, and to discuss their work and ideas. 
• Creating a community
• Art teachers promote a social context for art-making, encouraging students to engage with each other and exchange ideas. 
• Supporting the school
• Art teachers support the school administration in developing art programs, and attend faculty meetings and parent-teacher discussions. 
• Maintaining the classroom
• Art teachers ensure the classroom is clean after each lesson, and monitor inventory and source new supplies as needed.
