Job Title: Field Officer - Tea Factory

Reports To: Estate Manager
Job Summary: The Field Officer will oversee the day-to-day operations of tea cultivation and processing activities on the estate. This role involves managing field staff, ensuring optimal tea plant health, and maintaining high-quality standards for tea production. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in the tea industry and demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Operations Management:
- Supervise and coordinate all field operations, including planting, pruning, fertilizing, and harvesting of tea plants.
- Ensure adherence to best agricultural practices and estate protocols for tea cultivation.
- Monitor and optimize field performance, including soil health and plant growth.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control processes throughout the tea production cycle.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure that tea leaves meet the required quality standards.
- Address any quality issues and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Pest and Disease Management:
- Identify and manage pest and disease problems using integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.
- Collaborate with agronomists and other experts to develop and execute effective pest and disease control strategies.
- Harvesting and Processing Supervision:
- Oversee the harvesting process, ensuring that tea leaves are collected at the optimal time for quality.
- Supervise the processing of tea leaves, including withering, rolling, fermenting, and drying, to ensure consistency and quality.
- Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of field activities, production data, pest and disease incidents, and any other relevant information.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on field operations, production metrics, and other key performance indicators.
- Team Management:
- Lead, train, and motivate field staff to enhance productivity and maintain high standards of work.
- Address and resolve any personnel issues, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
- Sustainability and Compliance:
- Promote and implement sustainable agricultural practices to minimize environmental impact.
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and estate policies.
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure that all field operations adhere to health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety briefings and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or in a related field. Specialized training in tea cultivation or agronomy is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in the tea industry, with substantial experience in field management and tea processing. Knowledge in Hindi will be an added advantage.
