Customer Service:

  • Greet customers as they arrive, seat them, and present the menu.
  • Answer questions about the menu, including food ingredients, dietary restrictions, and daily specials.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders from customers and relay them to the kitchen or bar staff.
  • Offer recommendations for food and drinks based on customer preferences.
  • Ensure that customers’ needs are met throughout their meal (e.g., refilling drinks, checking on food quality).
  • Handle customer complaints or concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues to management if necessary.

Order Management & Delivery:

  • Deliver food and drinks to tables in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure that food orders are accurate and complete before serving.
  • Check in with customers to ensure they are satisfied with their meals and address any additional needs.
  • Clear dirty plates, glasses, and utensils from tables when customers are finished.
  • Process payments (cash or credit card) and handle change as needed.

Maintaining Cleanliness:

  • Set up and prepare tables before service (e.g., setting up silverware, glasses, and condiments).
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the dining area throughout the shift.
  • Clean and reset tables quickly and efficiently to accommodate new customers.
  • Assist with the organization of utensils, napkins, and condiments.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with kitchen staff, bartenders, and other waitstaff to ensure efficient service.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure orders are processed and delivered correctly.
  • Assist with other tasks, such as food prep, restocking supplies, or assisting with cleaning tasks during slow periods.

Upselling & Promotions:

  • Promote specials, new menu items, or upcoming events to customers.
  • Suggest additional items (e.g., appetizers, desserts, beverages) to increase sales.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that all food handling practices comply with safety and hygiene standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures in the event of an emergency or accident.
  • Ensure proper food safety procedures, including correct handling of food items, to prevent cross-contamination and ensure guest health.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: Previous experience in food service or hospitality is preferred but not required. On-the-job training is often provided.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to take orders, answer questions, and interact with customers.
  • Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and positive attitude.
  • Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple tables and tasks simultaneously in a busy environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure orders are accurate and service is timely.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, carry heavy trays, and move efficiently through the dining area.
  • Basic Math Skills: For handling payments, giving change, and calculating bills.
  • Knowledge of Food & Beverage: Understanding of the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and common allergens.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Typically, the waiter works in a fast-paced restaurant or café environment, interacting with customers, kitchen staff, and other service personnel.
  • Schedule: Flexible hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • Waiters may receive tips based on their service, which can constitute a significant portion of their income.
