Transport Supervisor – Job Description
Line Manager: Administration Manager
Role:
Transport system is vital to any school and it speaks volume about the school’s focus on child’s safety. The school transport officer is responsible for managing the entire fleet of buses & other vehicles, deciding their route, dispatch and schedule. His responsibility includes driver and other transport department staff management, optimum fuel consumption management & overall operations management of transport department.
It further includes route planning, developing a bus timetable and ensuring the maximum safety of children commuting to and from the school. He is the first point of contact for parents for matters related to student transport.
Key responsibilities: Transport Supervisor:
- To ensure safe, effective, responsive and efficient transport service for students in compliance with the regulations and according to the policies, guideline and procedures that are laid down.
- To resolve all challenges arising in regards to school buses.
- To oversee the timely maintenance checks of all the buses and to ensure that complete records of all maintenance are kept.
- To inspect the buses frequently to ensure that all the buses are in good condition and safe to transport the students to and from the school.
- To take charge of setting the routes for the buses, dispatch of the buses, working out their schedules, and managing the drivers.
- To be responsible for the conduct and behaviour of the bus drivers and attendants.
- To maintains a positive relationship with parents, students and staff members. This includes keeping parents informed of any route change, schedule change or timing changes.
- To coordinate with vendors to ensure that the bus fleet complies with all government requirements and regulations.
- To ensure that the drivers appointed by the vendor meet the Government requirements for school drivers and ensure thorough screening of candidates before appointment.
- To keep a record of license and insurance dates and ensure timely renewals as per academy policy (for insurance).
- To assist the administration in the development of standard operating procedures.
- To maintain safety standards in compliance with regulations.
Person Profile:
- Experience of managing a school transport system for at least 5 years
- Excellent communication and an agile attitude
- Technology proficiency to lead GPS mapping tracking system
- Should have a Bachelor’s degree and should be proficient in MS Office.
