JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Senior School Teacher

Purpose: To ensure quality implementation of the MYP, and Diploma curriculum programmes in line with the Academy’s vision and professional standards and practices.
Context: The Aga Khan Academies are an integrated network of schools with the mission of educating exceptional young people using the curricular of the International Baccalaureate Organization. As a further enrichment, the Academies’ curriculum will integrate the 5 AK Curricular Strands aimed at aligning the contextual understanding and interpretation of learning. The Academy offers a broad, multi-disciplinary curriculum of the highest international standards. The school aspires to produce graduates who have developed not only a strong capacity and desire to learn, but a pluralistic outlook and understanding of the world around them.

Responsibilities:
Primary accountabilities of a Senior School teacher:
Indicators of success:
- Effective delivery of the MYP & Diploma programs.
- Shows awareness of the broad principles behind MYP and DP programmes
- And an ability to deliver lessons that relate to the course requirements of the DP and to the unit question for MYP
- Willingness to keep abreast of changes in course requirements by attending PD, reading relevant subject reports. Etc.
- Use of a range of monitoring and assessment strategies
- Utilizing Managebac to its optimal usage to aid in programme delivery
- Evidence of both formative and summative assessment – Tests and exams, quizzes, research, homework, projects, End of Unit Assessments.
- Challenging and appropriate homework is regularly set.
- Weekly marking of MYP exercise books, with constructive comments provided as appropriate.
- Regular marking of DP assessments with detailed feedback given as appropriate.
- Records kept of student attainment
- Timely communication of academic concerns to relevant mentor/Grade Leader
- Attends and contributes constructively to collaborative planning sessions for MYP units.
- Ensures that their individual responsibilities for lesson planning & resource preparation are met.
- Proactive role taken with year level responsibilities or with respect to responsibilities for individual units. Sufficient support provided for non-specialists in the team.
- Classroom learning environment is purposeful and effective. Teaching resources are stimulating and appropriately pitched. Variety of teaching activities are employed across a unit, and, where appropriate, within lessons.
- Students are engaged and challenged in lessons to think.
- Physical environment is conducive to learning eg. Room is organized with desks arranged to reflect the learning activities & creative use of displays.
- Collaborate with the lab assistants for lab set up and keeping track of relevant lab material required. Keeping abreast with relevant technology e.g. simulators etc.
- Evidence of resources to support weaker students and extension activities to stretch more able students in lesson plans.
- Rapport / relationships between students and between teacher and students is positive, respectful and conducive to learning.
- Teacher and students arrive on time to class, and properly equipped for the lessons.
- Evidence of AK Strand objectives and learner outcomes in the Units of Work.
- Explicit connections made between the curriculum and the strands in lessons and in planning of units.
- Evidence of updated records of resources e.g. textbooks and other equipment
- Evidence that personal teaching files are kept with lesson plans and resources so that these do not need to be duplicated each year.
- Integrates the AK Strands in the teaching and learning process
- Organization and management of teaching and learning resources
- Supervision of Internal Assessment, Personal Project and Extended Essay
- Contribution to the development of enrichment and residential experiences for students
- Adherence to deadlines for IA and EE.
- Willingness to supervise fair share of EE and PP students
- Helpful detailed written feedback provided to students at appropriate point.
- Willingness to attend fieldtrips or educational visits and to help organize these as appropriate
- Supervise at least one enrichment activity per term/semester
- Participate in residential life as appropriate (i.e. duty)
Candidate profile:
Required attributes:
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with teaching qualification.
- At least 3 years’ experience in teaching the IB DP and MYP
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of high expectations for teachers and students.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills in relating to parents, students and other teachers
- Willingness to engage with faculty members across the grade 1–12 continuum.
- Inspire and motivate students gain a deeper appreciation for the subject.
- Bolster academic attainment at both the MYP and DP, with particular attention being paid to students’ achievement in economics/ business studies MYP and DP
Valued additional assets:
- Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
- Experience with residential programmes is an advantage
- Commitment to the co-curricular life of the school is expected
- Track record of producing exemplary results at the IB Exams or Moderation.
- Grounded knowledge in educational research
- Willingness to engage with faculty members across the grade 1–12 continuum.
